Wombourne v Brockhampton 10-9-11

Mike Hill brings up his 3 figures

Wombourne produced an excellent performance against a Brockhampton side who had hoped to wrap up promotion to the Premier League.

Wombourne won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wicket which looked to favour the bowlers, however 543 runs later it just goes to show looks can be deceptive!

Brockhampton requiring 22 points to guarantee promotion, started well with Ashley Nahorniak (61) and Adam Hewlett (18) putting on 44 for the 1st wicket, before Hewlett was caught by Steve Howard off the bowling of Liam Hughes. Dangerman Chris Boroughs (26) was caught at the wicket off Mike Hill who also removed Henry Langford (12) to finish with excellent figures of 15-4-43-2. Tom Austwick added 54 before Chris Powell cracked an unbeaten 49 to push Brockhampton up to 270-8 off their 55 overs. Adam Quiney finished with 3-63 and Liam Hughes 3-65.

Looking towards the future 17 year old Mike Brookes opened the batting for Wombourne; unfortunately he fell to a good catch by Chris Boroughs off his own bowling with the score on just 9. This brought Mike Hill to the wicket, and with skipper Karl Quiney they shared a superb 197 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Karl was finally bowled for 98 leaving him agonisingly just 18 runs short of a 1000 Birmingham League runs this season. Mike carried on to 123 before being bowled by Callum Stewart. Liam Hughes saw Wombourne home with a quick fire 28, reaching the total in the 43rd over for the loss of 4 wickets.

Wombourne’s final game of the season is away at Dorridge.
